Martha Bredin

I was lucky enough to be a member of the UCD Choral Scholars during my time in UCD. Through the scholars I met so many wonderful people with whom I am still friends with today. I am grateful to Des for introducing me to the beautiful and sometimes very challenging music that we rehearsed and performed every Sunday in the UCD Church in Belfield. Memories that still stand out to this day include singing to the late Pope John Paul II at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, recording a CD together (Road of Passage) and performing Live at the UCD Fashion Show in the Point Theatre.

Looking back, my time with the Scholars was something of a pivotal time for me as it was from here that I decided to pursue a career in performance. Since leaving I completed a Masters in Performance in the DIT Conservatory of Music whilst becoming Opera Theatre Companys (OTC) Young Associate Artist. I’m now an opera singer based mostly in the UK, working regularly at the Glyndebourne Festival alongside tours of Ireland and the UK and a six week stint in Tokyo amongst other engagements.

Looking back, the training and experience I received in the Choral Scholars provided me with many of the necessary tools that are so important to me as a performer today. Check out my website for details of my upcoming engagements www.marthabredin.com
