Máire Gaffney

"UCD Choral Scholars has afforded me the opportunity to grow musically and personally in a professional environment."

This is Máire\\\'s first year as a UCD Choral scholar. She grew up in Downpatrick and went to school in Co. Down. Before attending UCD she was asked to perform with the composer Philip Stopford at the grand opening of the Titanic Building, Belfast. She also sang the soprano solo in Britten’s War Requiem’s, ‘Lacrimosa’, with the Ulster and Irish Youth Choir. She chose to train as a ski instructor for a year before coming to UCD to study Radiography. Whilst in Austria she had the opportunity to perform at the Mozarteum Salzburg for many esteemed guests including soprano Barbara Bonney. She is now in second year and continues her training with Síle McCarthy. This year she has been awarded the Ad Astra Performing Arts scholarship.
